Food collections each year involve thousands of our customers and colleagues in helping people in need. Last year’s Christmas Food Collection resulted in an impressive number of 1 million of meals!
Tesco have been organising food collections in Poland for more than 10 years now. It is also an excellent example of how we can unite around a common task to help others, and to prove that even small gestures have great power.
Every year during Christmas and Easter seasons, volunteers in our stores for 3 days encourage customers to share and donate food to those in need. Joint effort of volunteers, our customers and colleagues made last year's Christmas Food Collection one of the best in our history. In Central Europe we collected more than 490 tonnes of food, enough to prepare up to 1,046,088 meals. In Poland, our result also was a record - we collected 100 tonnes. Furthermore, Tesco increased the volume of transferred food by 20%, making the support to local organisations even more effective.
In Poland, the collections are organised 3 times a year - before Easter, before Christmas and in September. During 2015 collections, we gathered a total of number of more than 169 tonnes of food – a quantity sufficient to prepare 338,000 meals.
